Dapper Day Leia Bound

Since I moved to Florida, I've finally been able to attend a couple Dapper Days! Dapper Day weekend happens twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. If you are unfamiliar with this tradition, it's a chance for people to dress up for the day and go to the parks to show off their style! Many people like to dress up in vintage styles, but really as long as you dress up and have fun, you'll fit in! It's such a fun experience and I would definitely recommend participating if you ever get the chance. It's amazing to see everyone's creative and stylish outfits!

Many people incorporate Disney bounds into their Dapper Day style. Disney bounding is creating an outfit based off a character, movie, ride, etc.. You wear clothes in the same colors as a character or clothes that remind you of what you are bounding as. I've bounded a few times so far and I can't wait to do more Disney bounds this year. It's very popular within the Disney Instagram community. In fact, many people host Disney bounding challenges throughout the year! If you're interested in taking part in a challenge, there is a huge challenge in March created by the official Disney bound account (@thedisneybound). Many other Disney Instagrammers create their own challenges throughout the year, so don't be afraid to take a look and find one you'd like to participate in. And if you aren't up for a challenge yet, just try Disney bounding on your next day in the parks. It's a lot of fun!

I have attended three Dapper Day weekends now. My first Dapper Day I Disney bounded as Giselle from Enchanted. For my second Dapper Day I wore a black Aristocats dress. This past fall Dapper Day I finally went all out and did my dream Dapper Day bound as Princess Leia. Each Dapper Day weekend, parks are chosen as the parks that people will go to. Usually Magic Kingdom and Epcot are chosen. However, for fall 2019 it was announced that Saturday would take place at Hollywood Studios. With Galaxy's Edge now open, I was ecstatic that the event would be taking place there. I had been wanting to do this look for a long time and I finally decided I was going to go for it! I talked with my friend Courtney and convinced her to be Han Solo to my Leia. The two of us had an absolute blast even though it turned out to be a very chilly day by Orlando standards. I should have gotten some type of sweater or shrug to go with my outfit, but I managed to make it until we decided to change and go to a different park.

I decided that I would shop for my Dapper Day outfit on Amazon. It's so convenient and I knew from talking with other people that they had good luck finding simple vintage dresses there. When I shop on Amazon I like to make sure that I use Amazon Smile which donates a small percentage of money from your order toward a charity that you choose with each purchase you make. I went online and began my search. I quickly found a white 50's style dress. I actually ended up buying it in two sizes and then was easily able to return the one that didn't fit. To achieve that signature poofy look I searched for a petticoat skirt for underneath my dress. I next looked for a silver belt, which was also easy to find. The last thing I looked for on Amazon were some vintage white heels. My final accessory was my pearl necklace which I found at Target. You can shop my exact look by clicking on the photo. You can find the shoes here. Our lipstick is from the Revlon matte finish line.

Now that I had my outfit I just had to wait for the day to arrive! The week leading up to Dapper Day I kept checking the weather and debated whether or not I should get a sweater or shrug to keep me warm since it was going to be chilly. I did actually go to a couple stores to look for something, but ultimately decided to save the money and just be cold. When November 16th finally arrived, my friend Courtney and I were so excited. We woke up, grabbed some breakfast at our hotel, and then began the process of getting ready. In other words, we started on our hair. Luckily, my hair was super cooperative that day and held curls. Since my hair is so thick, it also decided to work with us and my friend was able to achieve the signature victory rolls style which I think really helped add to my vintage look. So many thanks to Courtney for having the patience to work with my hair and help me achieve this hairstyle for the day! Here we are in the Florida sunshine excited for the day! Check out Courtney's adorable Millenium Falcon earrings! Such a great touch for her Han Solo bound.

Once we were ready, we headed to Hollywood Studios! Courtney and I love to ride rides, so we made sure to incorporate that into our day at the park. We rode rides and took lots of pictures! One really nice thing was that the Christmas decorations were already up in the park, so we were able to take pictures with the Christmas tree. We also took pictures with the Christmas tree inside the 50's Prime Time Cafe where we ate dinner that evening. We did a lot of walking around that day and eventually my feet began to hurt from wearing my heels. I had brought along this pair of flat shoes to change into once my feet started hurting and that definitely saved the day.

We obviously took lots of pictures throughout the day, but we mainly focused on taking pictures in Batuu and in the Star Wars Launch Bay. We wanted to visit Chewbacca of course, but we also decided to visit Darth Vader so we could say hi to our father/father-in-law. Chewie got a kick out of meeting little Chewie and Darth Vader was admittedly not happy to see us. Click through the slideshow below to see our fun interactions with these two!

While we were in Batuu, we took pictures with the Millenium Falcon behind us. It was the perfect backdrop for our Disney bounds! We got in line for a Photopass photographer and ended up being completely surprised with this wonderful cast member's dedication to getting us some memorable photos. She spent five to ten minutes posing us to get the best pictures she could and it really made for a special experience. While we were waiting in line we got to watch her take pictures for a couple who were Disney bounding for Dapper Day as the famous blue and green milk. It was so neat to see their creativity and see them pose with their namesake drinks.

This Dapper Day was absolutely incredible. I was able to do my dream Dapper Day bound with a really good friend. We had a ton of fun riding rides and taking pictures and seeing everyone else's amazing Dapper Day looks. Dapper Day is an experience I highly recommend for people to participate in. It's so much fun dressing up, taking photos, and seeing everyone's creativity and style. I am going to be away for Dapper Day this spring, but I am hoping to make it to the fall Dapper Day this year! I'm not sure yet what my look is going to be, but I know it's going to be a lot of fun to put together!
